Gold State Coach Silver Proof 50p
The Gold State Coach is a magnificent, eight-horse-drawn carriage that has been a symbol of British royalty since its creation.
Commissioned in 1760 by Francis Rawdon-Hastings for King George III, it was designed by Sir William Chambers and built by Samuel Butler. Although it was intended for George III’s coronation in 1761, it wasn’t completed until 1762
The Gold State Coach is a dazzling, living part of British history. The iconic carriage which featured spectacularly at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee pageant and the Coronation of King Charles III, is on display at the Royal Mews, the working stables of Buckingham Palace.
