The Ten Shilling Note
Many of us still remember the ten bob note that circulated before the 50p was introduced in 1969 In the 1960s it could buy 13 English-made ‘Matchbox’ cars, a complete men’s suit, 11 loaves of bread, a nail varnish, enough aspirin for 30 headaches and a lamp.
The 10/- banknote boasts a long and interesting history and many of us have fond memories of using the note before it disappeared from circulation 50 years ago.
