Why I recommend The 1815 20 Francs struck by The Royal Mint…

These coins have one of the most interesting stories you’ll ever find...

French 20 franc gold coins were approved by French King Louis XVIII to be struck by The Royal Mint in London during his exile.

Their purpose was for the use of the British army to pay the troops in France in 1815 in the period before the battle of Waterloo, giving them a currency that locals would accept.

British troops were occupying parts of North Western France, but some of the coins found their way to Paris and were considered counterfeits by the monetary authorities.

The French minting authorities were appalled. There was an exchange of diplomatic letters between France and England and the activity was stopped. No coins were struck after 30 November 1815.

The key difference between official French 20 Franc coins and the British “counterfeits” is the mint-mark found next to the year on the coin’s reverse.

The Royal Mint coins carry an ‘R’ – a letter that was not assigned to any French mint.

These coins are a rare find now, so I'm very pleased to be able to offer you one today. Although, with such a small stock available, you'll have to be quick to secure yours.

You can reserve your coin today for an initial payment of just £75 with the remaining cost spread over 9 interest-free monthly instalments of £75 - simply tick the instalments box once the coin is in your basket.
