After a failed French invasion in 1797, British gold and silver coins disappeared from circulation, hoarded out of fear. Due to their restricted ability to strike coins, The Royal Mint found itself in a vulnerable position, meaning they had to ask the Bank of England for emergency currency.
The Bank of England issued Tokens to fill the gap before the great re-coinage of 1816.
Here's why the Bank of England 5 Shilling Dollar Token belongs in your collection:
- Struck from .903 Silver
- Over 200 years old – a genuine piece of British numismatic history
- A unique addition to your collection – only issued for a short period of time
- Issued under the reign of King George III
Your Bank of England 5 Shilling Dollar Token comes in a deluxe presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
